Some locals call the Inner Coastal Waterway the ditch. We are staying at the downtown Marina of Beaufort SC waiting for an early morning start to Charleston SC, about 60 miles. Probably wont get all the way today but Judy’s picked out a comfortable anchorage about 10 miles before Charleston.
There are three sections, each about 2 miles long that are shallower than our boat’s keel – at low tide.
Making it important to get through all those segments while the tide is highest, or near high or at least a rising tide.
Tides change about 7 foot from low to high or high to low four each day. Each tidal change takes about 8 hours.
Some boaters love the slow pace and beautiful scenery along the ditch. Others hate it for it’s shallow sections and slow pace.
At 5AM this morning of the 18th , I’m right in between.
